6082 T62 Aluminum
6082-T62 aluminum is an aluminum alloy that has been subjected to solution heat treatment and artificial aging. It is a specific temper of the 6082 aluminum alloy, offering excellent fatigue strength and good mechanical properties.
The 6082-T62 aluminum alloy is obtained through solution heat treatment and artificial aging. In this process, the aluminum alloy is first heated at high temperatures to fully dissolve the alloy components, followed by rapid cooling. Finally, artificial aging is applied to achieve the required mechanical properties.
6082 T62 Aluminum Mechanical Properties
- Tensile Strength (UTS): Compared to 6082-T6 aluminum, the tensile strength of T62 is lower but still meets the strength requirements for general structural applications. Typically, 6082-T62 aluminum alloy is suitable for applications with moderate strength requirements.
- Shear Strength: The shear strength of T62 is lower than that of T6, making it suitable for applications that experience mild shear forces. For applications requiring higher shear strength, T6 or other higher strength tempers may be more appropriate.
- Elongation at Fracture: Compared to the T6 temper, the ductility of T62 aluminum is slightly lower, ranking second lowest in its ductility. Nevertheless, it is still suitable for applications under constant load. For applications requiring higher plasticity and elongation, an alloy temper with better ductility may be needed.
- Fatigue Strength: T62 aluminum alloy has very good fatigue resistance, making it ideal for applications that undergo cyclical or fluctuating stresses. In fields such as machinery and automotive, its excellent fatigue strength can effectively extend the lifespan of components.

6082 T62 Aluminum Heat Treatment Process
- Solution Heat Treatment: In this step, the 6082 aluminum is heated to a specific temperature to dissolve the soluble elements and form a homogeneous solid solution.
- Artificial Aging: After the solution heat treatment, the aluminum is aged in a controlled environment to enhance its strength and hardness. The artificial aging process is crucial in the T62 temper, as it is performed by the receiving party rather than the supplier.
- The T62 temper involves these processes to achieve mechanical properties suitable for applications requiring moderate strength and fatigue resistance.
6082 T62 Aluminum Applications
- Suitable Applications: 6082-T62 aluminum is primarily used in structural components requiring good fatigue strength, such as automotive chassis and mechanical parts. These components often experience repeated or cyclical loads, necessitating high fatigue strength.
- Structural Components with Moderate Strength Requirements: Since the strength of T62 is lower than T6, it is suitable for structural components that bear moderate strength loads. It is especially ideal for parts that do not require high strength but need long-term stability.
- Applications with High Fatigue Requirements: 6082-T62 aluminum excels in applications requiring high fatigue strength, making it ideal for dynamic parts in automotive and mechanical structures. These parts often experience fluctuating or cyclical stresses, and the fatigue resistance of T62 aluminum ensures a long service life.
6082-T62 aluminum alloy is a high-quality material, especially outstanding in environments that experience high fatigue stress. It is suitable for structural components under moderate strength loads, offering good fatigue strength but with lower ductility and shear strength. It is ideal for automotive, mechanical, and other dynamic parts exposed to repetitive stress. Although it may not be as suitable as T6 aluminum in applications requiring high strength and ductility, T62 aluminum still has unique advantages in applications that demand higher fatigue strength.
